History and Heritage
Situated directly on the Atlantic shoreline, Laphroaig benefits from the island's abundant peat resources and maritime climate, both of which profoundly shape its house style. The distillery uses traditional floor malting for a portion of its barley, peated to high phenol levels using local peat cut from the distillery's own reserves. Pure water drawn from the Kilbride Stream, combined with copper pot stills and maturation in a mix of bourbon barrels and quarter casks, contributes to the distillery's bold, distinctive character. The Atlantic Ocean's influence imparts a briny, iodine-rich quality that defines every Laphroaig expression.
Distillery and Craft
The core portfolio includes widely recognised releases such as Laphroaig 10 Year Old, Quarter Cask, Lore and Select, alongside limited edition and cask strength expressions that consistently receive acclaim from critics and collectors. Intense peat smoke, medicinal notes, seaweed, vanilla and hints of citrus define the signature Laphroaig style across the range. The distillery holds a Royal Warrant, a rare distinction reflecting its benchmark status among single malt producers and its enduring appeal to discerning whisky drinkers.
