Founded in Reims in 1760, Champagne Lanson is one of the oldest established Champagne houses and a historic reference for non-malolactic winemaking. Based in Reims and part of the Lanson-BCC group, the House sources fruit from Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards across Champagne's most distinguished terroirs. By systematically avoiding malolactic fermentation, Lanson produces Champagnes defined by vivid acidity, citrus purity and remarkable longevity.
Quick Facts
A House Built on Freshness
For more than 260 years, Lanson has maintained a distinctive approach to Champagne production centred on the preservation of natural acidity. Unlike the majority of Champagne houses, Lanson systematically blocks malolactic fermentation across its entire range, retaining the bright malic acid naturally present in the base wines.
This technical choice shapes every cuvée the House produces. The resulting Champagnes display pronounced citrus character, a taut minerality and a freshness that persists through extended bottle age. It is a style that prioritises tension and clarity over early roundness.
The Identity of Black Label
Black Label Brut has served as the House's signature non-vintage cuvée for generations. Composed predominantly of Pinot Noir, with Chardonnay and a smaller proportion of Pinot Meunier, it draws fruit from Premier Cru and Grand Cru sites across the Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs and Marne Valley.
Extended lees ageing of at least three years develops complexity while preserving the vibrant structure and citrus-driven purity central to Lanson's identity. The wine expresses the freshness of Chardonnay and the weight of Pinot Noir without softening through malolactic conversion, creating a taut, precise Champagne built for both immediate enjoyment and patient cellaring.
Black Label remains the clearest expression of what defines Lanson: a commitment to acidity, structure and the long evolution that naturally follows.
Noble Cuvée and the Prestige Portfolio
At the summit of the range stands Noble Cuvée Brut, Lanson's tête de cuvée and the House's most refined expression of non-malolactic winemaking. Produced only in exceptional vintages and assembled from Grand Cru fruit, Noble Cuvée receives extended cellar ageing that allows its natural freshness to integrate with greater depth and aromatic complexity.
The House also produces vintage-dated Champagnes and Lanson Rosé, each maintaining the signature non-malolactic character that connects every cuvée in the portfolio. Across all expressions, the focus remains consistent: wines of clarity, tension and structure shaped by extended time on the lees and built to reward patience.
Nearly three centuries after its founding, Lanson continues to produce Champagnes distinguished not by softness or early accessibility, but by freshness, precision and an uncommon capacity to evolve gracefully over decades.
